Doran thrilled as LD Motorsport takes gold in Loheac

Monster Energy driver Liam Doran announced RD7 of the FIA European Rallycross Championship a massive success after teammate Andreas Bakkerud produced an emphatic display to take the overall victory.

Liam and the LD Motorsport team arrived at the world-famous Lohéac racetrack in France fresh from taking gold in the British Rallycross series at Lydden Hill a week earlier.

Doran started the weekend on form with a third place in timed practice and two adrenaline-fuelled victories in heats one and three. Yet he failed to progress to the semi-finals after being black-flagged in heat four following contact with Timmy Hansen.

However Doran and the 40,000 frenzied petrol heads in attendance would watch on as Bakkerud took his second consecutive RX victory, with Petter Solberg second and Davy Jeanney following in third.

Liam commented: “Today wasn’t the best day for me personally but it is a big day for the team and for Andreas. Andreas drove great, it was a well deserved win!”

Bakkerud’s resounding win means LD Motorsport have now taken the win at four of the last seven European Rallycross Championship rounds. And victory at the Monster Energy-sponsored event was made extra-special due to the crazy support of the thousands of Lohéac fans - often considered some of the most passionate in motorsport.

Liam said: “Loheac is great. Having this many people at a Rallycross race is so awesome, it makes for such a good vibe. And for our team to win here is makes it even better.”

Not only did LD Motorsports win the event but Doran also beat the lap record on Saturday and Bakkerud smashed it again on Sunday. The team will now head to Greinbach Austria on September 14-15 looking to complete a memorable hat trick of RX wins.
